DC Comics Fandex! (a.k.a. I WON SOMETHING!!)

I've never been one for contests. I don't like competition and I don't like to lose. I don't gamble and I very rarely enter contests for that exact reason. There's usually never anything that I break this rule for, well except for this time.
Reis over at Geek Orthodox decided in one of his video blogs to have a contest, and I couldn't help but enter.  And guess what?
I WON!!!
I was so excited when I found out that I was jumping up and down at work and scaring my coworkers!
Since then I've been waiting patiently, checking my small little apartment mailbox daily, just waiting for it to come in. And today it finally arrived!
My very own DC Comics Super Heroes and Villains Fandex!

What's a Fandex you ask? Well, let me tell you. It's like a small encyclopedia about all the super heroes and villains from the DC universe, all individually pictured and die-cut and held together at bottom so that you can fan it out to see it all. Hence Fandex!

(yes my shirt says 'I only kiss Super Heroes' and yes perhaps a Marvel shirt was a bad choice to wear for this DC post. Oh well.)

I already learned about a whole slew of Heroes and Villains that I didn't know much about before today.
Like Blue Beetle. I've heard of him before, but sadly whenever I think of him I always picture Beetle Bailey in my head. Well not after today I won't!

Who knew that Starro could turn Earth's starfish into his loyal agents? Not me, well at least not until now!

And for Reis, I can't help but think of you when I see the New Gods.

Speaking of Reis, I was sad to find out just moments ago that he will no longer be posting on Geek Orthodox and that he will be shutting down his site in a matter of months. I highly recommend checking out his site while you still have a chance, otherwise you'll miss one of my all time favorite blogs!
Reis, we'll miss you and your crazy luchador mask wearing, witty remarks and awesome geek insight.

SW tattoo: Good or bad idea?

Ah, Star Wars tattoos. 

You either love 'em or hate 'em. 

Me? Well, you well may know that I already have a Rebel Alliance tattoo on my hip. It's pretty small and not very impressive. I got it to show my love of SW, but lately I've been feeling that it just doesn't show enough love.

That's why I've decided to get another one (see above) Isn't she awesome? She's the creation of Katie Cook, who is one of my favorite artists for pulling off both cute and sexy at the same time. I've even asked Katie permission to use her artwork and she enthusiastically approves! 

It took me a long time to pick a Star Wars image that I really loved and I spent a lot if time looking on the net for pictures of other Star Wars tattoos. And lets just say that I found a bag of mixed results.

Now don't get me wrong. Some of them were really great!

Some are really well done, but kinda strange choices.

Now I know I love SW more then most people, but mixing it with religion or holidays is kinda weird

Some of them mean well and should be cool, but turn out strangely

Aren't you a little short for a dark lord?

Some just turn out plain bad and make me think WTF were you thinking?

And some people just don't think tattoos are far enough! Ouch!

What did I tell you? Mixed bag indeed.

So you can see why I've decided to get something simple but awesome!

I know everyone has probably already seen this, but I think it's awesome enough to show again :) Especially the Stormtrooper and Reble Pilots dancing and the amazing Princess Leia bun headphones!

Chewbacca and the Ewoks are a little creepy, but I think they more than make up for it with the Boba Fett cameo.

I also got a good laugh at the Gold Bikini. All the costumes seem pretty well done, but I know for a fact that that bikini is the Halloween costume version. (I happen to have the same one hanging up in my closet)

Star Wars Toys!!!

There's a pretty awesome feeling that I get when I think or talk about Star Wars. I guess I do this a little too much because I'm beginning to be known as "that Star Wars girl" amongst my friends and collogues.

Now don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad thing. Not by a long shot.

This is a great thing! Do you want to know why?

STAR WARS TOYS!!!

Yes, people have started to give me their old Star Wars toys and that, my friend, is AWESOME!!

It all started a few weeks ago when a friend of mine was moving and found his old vintage figures from the early '80s! When he brought them into work for me the following day, I was beyond exstatic!

I've never owned any Star Wars toys before except for a brief brush with a Qui-Gon and Maul Lego set before my then boyfriend stole them from me, so this was a rare treat indeed!

(That's my cat in the background f some of these, and yes, that is Mount Doom at the bottom of the painting. But that's a story for another day)

Look at my kick-ass Driods! R2D2 is my favorite, but the GNK Droid was more than I could ever expect! I just love how they both look like walking garbage cans :D

How about Obi-Wan using the Force to chase off the Tuscan Raider (or Tucan Raider as my SW challanged boyfriend likes to call them)

I sense something; a presence I've not felt since...

(Yay! Lightsaber chopsticks! And yes, I know Obi-Wan's should be blue, but I don't have those ones...yet)

This will be a day long remembered. It has seen the end of Kenobi, it will soon see the end of the Rebellion

Wookie/Hammer Head High Five!!

I sort of want to make a hammer-time reference, but I will refrain.

When the Carbonite plan didn't work, Jabba settled for just Han Solo's head on a platter.

So after that epic batch of toys, another collogue of mine brought this beauty in for me from his own personal collection!!!

Now since I was in such a SW toys head space, I heading over to the Silver Snail on the weekend. And what did I find? The Deal of a Century!!

The Ceremonial Princess Leia figure that I've always eyed longingly from a far, marked down from $70 to $10!!!!!! WOOHOO!!

Check out that awesome face sculpt! Isn't she lovely?

Incase you didn't know (because most people don't) I have a bit of an obsession about Barbie and similar type dolls. So when I first found out there were SW dolls out there I wanted them all!

Especially Princess Leia, but also Queen Amidala.

Look what I found for $8!!!

I've never really been a fan of her Escape from Naboo outfit, but I must say that the detailing that went into this doll makes me have an entirely new respect for this costume. It even has the Naboo symbol emblazoned around the bottom of them hem! Don't even get me started on how much I love the headdress and face paint!

*Swoon* I love this doll 

Plus, isn't it nice to finally see Mother and Daughter together at last? I think so.
