Braeby's Big Adventure To South Korea!

I'M BACK!

Yes, it's been 2 weeks, and I've been to South Korea and back!
Not sure what I'm talking about? Read about it here.
I would've posted a few days ago, but my jet lag has been quite weird. Anyway, I've rested up and I think I feel like I'm getting back to normal and I'm ready to post about it.

The plane ride took 17 1/2 hours to get there. That's pretty brutal. By the time I went to sleep that night in Korea, I had been awake about 30 hours.

Movies watched on the plane there and back:

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Transformers: Dark Of The Moon
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
New Years Eve

The Double
Jack And Jill
Terra Nova (5 episodes)
CSI (2 episodes)
NCIS (1 episode)

Yes, I watched a lot of movies. I was way too tired to do anything else. Now crossing the world is quite weird. As you cross time zones going backwards, it's kind of like traveling back in time, until you cross the International Date Line and suddenly you're in tomorrow. I felt like a Dr. Who companion, but in an airplane and not a TARDIS.

South Korea is beautiful. Even in my Jet Lag haze, I could appreciate how amazing it was. I was lucky enough to be there right on time for Cherry Blossom Season!

Since I was a teenager, watching Sailor Moon, I've always wanted to see cherry blossoms in season, thanks to the episode "Cherry Blossom Time"

Yes, I know Sailor Moon is Japanese and not Korean, but a lot of things in Korea reminded me of it, including the misty looking mountains and scenery.

But of course, the main reason I was there was to see Rachel and Joon get married. The ceremony took place at a Korean Folk Village, in the pouring rain. But getting soaked was well worth it. It was absolutely magical.

Don't they look amazing in their Hanboks? Very Queen Amidala if you ask me.

I'm not sure if I mentioned that Rachel teaches English at a public school in Suji. Her co-teacher asked if Rachel's parents and I would come in to speak to one of her classes, so that they could ask us questions about what Canada was like.

They asked what type of food we ate, what our national animals were, and my personal favorite; if I had a boyfriend. They were really cute.

We traveled around quite a bit, going to parks and the folk village, a tourist town called Andong and  my personal favorite; Seoul.

We had to transfer at least 5 or 6 times through their really amazing, and quite complicated, subway system. We saw a lot of fun and crazy things

The food there was spectacular, even if it didn't agree with me.

I'm quite the fan of dumplings, kimchi (top bowl on right) and ddeok (which is a a rice stick or ball). It was all so good. I can't wait to try making my own on Bake Star Wars For Me.

I also got some fun souvenirs. I won't post what I picked up for people, since I don't want to give it away, but here are a few things I got for myself.

Anyone else think these face look like Princess Leia and a very dorky Han Solo? Just me?

Yes, Barbie hair dye and styling products. You better believe when my hair grows out a bit that this will be a post.

little bear head cake pans and weird sugar cubes for BSWFM

little angel wing earrings that go really well with my Captain America shirt

Avengers Assemble! Cute shirts from SPAO.

I really love the Captain America one! So cute!!

Koreans, like me, are really into Barbie. I picked up these shirts from Uniqlo

Awesome, huh?

I know, I know, that was a lot to take in, and it's not even the half of it. I have way too many pictures to post here, but if you're interested in seeing more of my pictures from South Korea; you can check out my Facebook albums here, here and here, where you will see lots of pictures of scenery, greenery, us doing stupid things and inappropriate statues. Also, the post office that I ended up in during a lock-down drill.

Super fun!

  1. What an amazing re-cap, Brae! It was so great to show you around Korea. It reminded me of how much I like it here (which is easy to forget when you get caught up in the 'day-to-day'). I'm still on the lookout for Shinee socks.^^
