Thursday Threads - Pigtails & Pirates

With Spring finally on it's way, I find my self getting ansy for warm weather, so I can break out some of my cute geeky dresses. And while I'm thinking of dresses, I always have to go and look up more for future purchases.
That's how I came across Pigtails & Pirates
Yes, not only does it have an awesome name, but amazing geek dresses as well

DC Girl Power

Wouldn't this Batman/Superman one have been perfect for opening night?
So cool

Doctor Who

I've always loved the Van Gogh  TARDIS print and I think this dress pattern makes it so much better

Marvel's Avengers

I've actually have a few metres of the above fabric and never known what to do with it. Now I have lots of ideas!

Disney

Okay, so maybe these aren't licences Disney, but they fit the bill for me. I mean can you look at the soda cap dress above and not think of UP immediately?

MISC

I'm in love with this Adventure Time dress!

Okay, this I put in just for me. I mean not only do I love to bake and I love the style, how can I resist "Let's Mix Things Up" and "This is How I Roll"?

I can't wait for warmer weather. Can you blame me?

DC Super Hero Girls

WELCOME TO SUPER HERO HIGH SCHOOL!
At Super Hero High, iconic Super Heroes like Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumblebee, Poison Ivy, and Katana navigate all the twists and turns of high school. United by friendship, the DC Super Hero Girls empower kids to shine with confidence and courage, especially while they combat those overwhelming, exciting, and awesomely awkward moments of growing up (sometimes super powers can be super stressful!).

Aspiring Super Heroes can check out our exclusive web series for the full scoop on what life is like inside the walls of Super Hero High School. In the spring of 2016, the DC Super Hero Girls will come to life with a line of action dolls, figures and accessories, books, play sets and so much more. If that doesn’t have you bursting at the seams of your cape, remember that the world of Metropolis is at your fingertips here on the website - play, explore, read and....Get Your Cape On! It’s time to meet the DC Super Hero Girls!

What can I say? I'm really excited about the new DC Super Hero Girls! I mean, they are finally, finally realizing that they have a huge female fan base and they can use the power of these superheros for good! Not only are they teaching important lessons on being yourself, they are also showing these characters for the first time as NOT being sex objects!

“DC Entertainment is home to the most iconic and well-known Super Heroes including Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Batgirl. DC Super Hero Girls represents the embodiment of our long-term strategy to harness the power of our diverse female characters.  I am so pleased that we are able to offer relatable and strong role models in a unique way, just for girls.”- Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment

They're all wearing reasonable outfits! None of them have cleavage or midriffs showing! I almost can't believe it!

In the vain of Monster High and Ever After High, the website features shorts that show the girls interacting with one another. They are fun and silly and not only take on the mythos of the DC characters, they allow them to be friends in spite of their differences.
As an example, although Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn are very different, they are roommates and unlikely best friends

There is a host of characters that show up in the background, but so far the guys have just been friends and not romance options, which I'm super happy about

“Together with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment, the DC Super Hero Girls franchise will further expand our already powerful girls portfolio. We know Super Hero is a culturally relevant theme and the DC Super Hero Girls franchise will engage and inspire girls, providing cues to explore heroic acts through play and into real life.” - Richard Dickson, President, Chief Operating Officer, Mattel.

Not only are they making the show, but they are following it up with dolls and action figures (that actually look good) from Mattel, books from Random House and LEGO sets! These are all to be released in 2016 and I'm super excited! I can't wait to buy these for my niece (and maybe a doll or 2 for myself). Dolls like these allow me to reiterate to her how awesome it is to be a girl and that being a girl means being anything you want to be, including a hero!

No more disappearing female action figures or products telling us that we aren't good enough

These DC Superhero Girls are for us!

DC Bombshells

I've always wanted to be a Pin-up Girl. I love the art, the poses, the clothes... everything.
I especially love when pin-up culture gets mixed with my fandoms.

Check out this amazing new prints (which are now up for preorder) that are surprisingly licensed by DC comics

These are all gorgeous! The Black Canary one is my favourite, followed closely by Poison Ivy.
Hot Topic has already started making use of these new pictures on products like body spray and t-shirts. I actually own the Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn and Supergirl sprays. I could care less about the smell. I bought them for the art well before I ever knew I could buy them as prints.

I'm kinda hoping that these lovely ladies will soon be popping up as tattoos. I think they would make really awesome ones.

So what do you think? Are you happy with this new pin-up line?

Superheroine Swimsuits!

Now that the weather's finally getting nice, I've started to think about what type of swimsuit that I want for summer. My old one has finally kicked the bucket and I sort of wanted a new one anyway.
There are so many swimsuits out there that it's hard to choose. Since the Star Wars bathing suits are no longer available, I need to find some other geeky apparel to make me happy.
What do I like as much as Star Wars? Superheroes and Superheroines!

3 of my favorite DC heroines now have their own bathing suits on Superhero Stuff!

Batgirl

Supergirl

Wonder Woman

I wish that there was a full bathing suit option as well, but I like the cut away side ones quite a bit, especially the Wonder Woman one (and the Batgirl one)

The other great option that I found for those of us who would prefer a full piece are these great swimsuits from Splish

Aquaman
(or as they call it, Fishchick)

Captain America

Wonder Girl/Mary Marvel?

Okay, so it might not be licensed or spot-on, but I think they're pretty awesome. As much as I love the Cap, being Canadian makes it a bit weird to wear the old red, white and blue and the Wondy/Marvel bathing suit is a strange combination. I think if I got any of these it would be the Aquaman one.

So, if you could own any of these bathing suits, which one would you buy? and which one do you think I should get? I need all the help I can get.

UPDATE:

You can also now buy a TMNT halter bikini top at Spencer's!
