52 Books in 52 Weeks

I love books! I love getting lost in the pages, taken over by the words within.
I read a lot. I mean a lot a lot.
I usually read about a book a week or so.
I read on my commute to and from work, which is about 45 minutes each way. I read for another 45 minutes or so on my lunch break, including when I'm eating. And on most days, I slip into a nice hot bubble bath at the end of my day and read for another 45 minutes or so.
If it's a good book, I'll include 15 minute breaks at work and before bed.
If a book takes me longer than 2 weeks, it means I'm really not enjoying it and finding other things to do during those times that I'm usually reading.

In the last year, I've been keeping track of the books that I've read on Goodreads (you can check out my link to it in the top right corner)

This year I've read 42 books. That's pretty good, but I think I can do better in 2014.
I'm going to challenge myself to read 52 books in 52 weeks!

Yes, that comes down to one book a week all year. Can I do it? I guess we'll just have to see.
Are you interested in trying this too? You can sign up here!
They've set up challenges, like starting a book on Sunday and finishing it by Saturday, but I'm not going to force myself into that.

A different challenge that I'm going to do as well is the TBR Pile Challenge.
I haven't picked my books yet, so I'll update this when I do.

If you want to keep tabs on my progress, you can look to the bottom right of my blog (you may have to scroll down) where I will be keeping a list of what books I've finished and links to product pages.
If you'd like, each month I can do a review of the books that I have read.
What do you think? Have you enjoyed my book reviews of the past?
Drop me a line and let me know.
Until then, I better get reading!

And A Geeky New Year

It's almost that time again.
Time to celebrate the passing of another year and welcoming the new one in.

What better way to pass a new year than with a geeky calendar. Finding one can be so difficult though. That's where these two artists come in.

KanaHyde over at Society 6 is selling these amazing Doctor Who and Supernatural calendars.
I can't decide which one I want to buy more, the Doctor or Castiel! Maybe I should get them both and hang them at home and in my office.

These next ones by SceithAilm are month to month, giving you more geek throughout the year.

You can see all of them here, but here are a few of my favourites

I really wish these were year round calendars too. I'd have Queen Amidala up all year for sure!
As far as I can tell, these are not for sale, but I wish that they were.

Whatever kind of calendar you like, here's hoping it's filled with geeky joy

Christmas Collage

It's that time of year again!
Yes, it time to throw together all of the awesome Christmas pictures that I've come across throughout the year!

Starting with the Supergirl/Batgirl Christmas Collection by Mikemaihack!

Poor Batgirl, she never gets a break

Every year Joanna Johnen does an amazing Geeky Advent Calendar. I featured her a few years ago and I can't help but share the newer ones that I love as well.

Here is some wonderful art by Bela Pilar! I love the Christmas dresses that they're wearing! Maybe when I'm better at sewing, I'll make a few for myself!

Starfleet wishes you a happy holiday!

Even if you are a grinch!

I love these prints by AliciaMB. How adorable!

Wookie the Chew loves his new Han doll! I want one too!

I apologize that I don't know who drew all the pictures, but if you know, drop me a line.

And of course, happy holidays to you and yours

Christmas Is Magic!

How adorable is this little guy by Brianna?

If he were a real MLP, I would call him Raindee.
I'm considering getting the shirt of this so that I can have an awesome pop culture Christmas shirt for next year.

Super Smash Wars

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....

Link Skywalker must find his true path if he ever hopes to defeat Ganon-Darth and become a true Jedi.

I honestly thought that this was going to be stupid, but the more I watched, the better it became!

My favourite part was Princess Peach blowing on the cartridge before giving it to RToad-DToad.

I loved the use of warp pipes, shyguy tuskin raiders, the letter from the Princess!

Birdo/Greedo!

The clever use of the wii-mote!

Ok, ok. I know that most of those are Mario references, but to be fair I have the most history with it.
For those of you who actually own more than a few Nintendo games, I'm sure you will pick out many more references that will make you happy!
