Braeby's Big Adventure

Meet Rachel;
a bouncy, bubbly, blue eyed, blonde, but more importantly, one of my very best friends.

I've known Rachel since grade 2 and she's been an important part of my life ever since.

We can go years without seeing each other, but when we do get together, it's as if not a day has passed. We're always there for one another, which brings me to this post.

RACHEL'S GETTING MARRIED!!
AND I'M GOING!!!!
YAY!!

Big deal, you think. Well it is. She's getting married in South Korea!!
Yes, you read that right. I'm going to South Korea! Tomorrow, in fact.

I always told her that even if she ever eloped, to just let me know and I would be there. When she told me that she was getting married, I decided that I needed to be there. It was totally by luck and faith that everything came together as it did, but I truly believe I was meant to be there for this.

that's our friend Eric, not the guy she's marrying
I haven't traveled since I was 16 and never so far before. I've never been off the continent! The flight is going to be 17 hours long!!!

I'm telling you all this, so you understand why I won't be blogging for the next 2 weeks. I am going to try and find some cool, geeky stuff while I'm there, so I can blog about it when I get back.

this is us dressed up as Barbie and Midge
I'm so excited!!! and nervous... but mostly excited! Tune back in 2 weeks to hear all about my South Korean adventure!!

Geek Coffee

Blargh....

Ever have those morning where you just can't wake up? I'm having one of those mornings. I haven't been sleeping well that last few nights and last night I stayed up way too late playing Angry Birds Space.

You know what I need? I need a big-ass cup of coffee.

What about some geeky coffee, made for gamers who need the caffeine to stay up gaming all night or for when they have to get back up in the morning?

9-Bit Coffee will do just the trick, I think.

Blended from nine different kinds of coffee bean (we’re not sure half of them are real), this premium java is at its best as an espresso, or with a splash of cold milk. Created for gamers, by gamers (FGBG), this caffeinated classic makes the perfect fuel for late night gaming marathons – or as a pick-me-up the following morning. So grab yourself a can, warm the espresso machine, pull on your sweat bands and load one of those big clunky cartridges – we’re powering back to the 1990’s! - buy it here

Or, if you're like me, and you can't handle too much caffeine, there are geeky alternatives to coffee.

Remember Dark Side Coffee? You can now order a variety pack of Star Wars sippables from Think Geek.

Wake up with the galaxy's best

We scoured the galaxy far, far away for the beverages that get humans, aliens, and droids alike buzzing with energy. Here's what we found:

Vader's Dark Side Roast Coffee is commonly enjoyed by Dark Lords of the Sith while planning new Death Star construction, but is also enjoyed in the break room by your common stormtrooper. This hand roasted coffee is a true taste of the Dark Side. A blend of three diverse coffees and two different roasts creates a full-bodied, sharp, cup with spicy undertones and smoky, dark-roasted complexity. Give into your anger and sample a steaming cup and you will be rewarded with power beyond your imagination.

Dagobah Green Tea is the drink of choice of Jedi Masters. Just because a planet is devoid of civilization doesn't mean it's not civilized. Deep in the jungles of Dagobah grow the most delicious green tea leaves in the galaxy. If you need a moment alone to ponder the Force, do it while sipping a hot cup of Yoda's favorite tea.

Finally, Hoth Cocoa is guaranteed to warm you all the way to your bones. It's the preferred beverage of the Rebels of Echo Base. All you need are warm hand-knitted socks. When life gives you snow, melt it into water and use it to make a steaming cup of rich, creamy Hoth Cocoa.
Choose your breakfast beverage wisely. The fate of the galaxy depends on you.

I really want to try Yoda's Dagobah Green Tea. Considering the climate there, I imagine the vegetation is very lush and flavorful.

If we're going to be drinking geek coffee or tea, we need to do it out of geeky mugs. It's only fair, really.
Now, I have a thing about mugs, as in, I like to collect them. There's nothing quite like drinking booze from the head of Han Solo, having a tea party with Disney Princess teacups or having juice in my "I only date Superheroes" mug. And that's just a small part of my mug addiction.

These mugs will one day make my collection a little more complete. That is, once they're back in stock.

The Warp Pipe mug is sheer awesomeness! Not only does it make me want to play some Mario, but it also comes with one of the coasters below! I want the question box!

Why is it that you can never find an E canister when you need one? This mug is no exception. I feel like this mug could mentally and physically help me jump start my day, but as in the game, this baby is hard to find.

Even more elusive than the E mug, is this conceptual Game Boy mug, that I really wish was real.

I can hear the game over music from Mario playing in my head as I look at the bottom of this cup. Doesn't it make you want to play again? I really hope they decide to make this into reality. Please Tiago Goncalves, make it so!

With arsenal including these mugs and coffee, I could be awake for days! But until they're in my hands, I think I'm just going to go have a nap instead.

UPDATE:

A not as awesome, but still awesome replacement for the E container mug has been found on Think Geek!

Oh, Think Geek, my wish list from you keeps getting bigger and bigger...

Chuck Norris Vs. Video Games

There used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.
Oh, Chuck Norris, does your awesomeness know no bounds?

I didn't think so. Keep on being awesome, Chuck Norris, keep on being awesome.

Thanks to So Geek Chic, who knows a good Chuck Norris joke, but is too afraid of Chuck Norris to tell it. Probably a good idea.

Thanks Captain America, I needed that.

Lightsaber Umbrellas

It's raining again.

That seems to happen a lot in the Spring. It's cold and wet, but it's cleaning the streets of all of Winter's crap, nourishing our gardens and helping to make things grow. I love the rain. I prefer the warmer Summer rains that I can go out and dance in, but all rain is good in my books. I know, I'm weird like that. While I'm loving the rain, most people don't feel the same. As soon as those first few drops start to fall, they run for shelter as if Godzilla himself were on the loose.
The other thing that I love about the rain is umbrellas. Umbrellas use to be boring, unless you were a kid, but these days you can find all sorts of awesome, colourful umbrellas that fit your personality. My umbrella is giant, pink and has red poka-dots on it. Yes, it's that awesome. It is beginning to fall apart after years of use though, so maybe it's time for me to get a new umbrella, something that really makes a statement about who I am....

But where can I find such a thing? The Star Destroyer Umbrella is still in concept...

What's this? Think Geek has something to show me?

This IS the umbrella you've been looking for.

Beyond the Outer Rim, spins a stormy planet. Long, long ago, climate change led to all the continents being submerged - forcing the inhabitants to build cities on stilts. The planet is, of course, known (by the few who know) as Kamino. Apart from always being rainy, it's a place famous for two exports: clones and Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrellas. While we can't sell you any clones (against Republic Law), we sure can sell you the 'brellas!
These Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrellas are just freaking awesome. The hilts have been scaled down a bit, so they are very comfortable to hold. And while the shafts don't light up, they are anodized (and a little sparkly) in the proper blade color. The canopy part even has the saber owner's affiliation insignia (Jedi or Imperial) silk-screened on it. These Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrellas are ready to turn heads while keeping yours dry! If you don't use one of these Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrellas, you will get wet when it rains. And then Vader will sadly bellow, "Nooooooooo!"

Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrellas
  • Each umbrella has a different Lightsaber hilt (slightly scaled down for easier use).
  • While it doesn't light up, each shaft is anodized in the proper color for the saber's blade.
  • Each umbrella part has silk-screened insignia (either Jedi or Imperial) of the corresponding faction of the saber's owner.
  • Choose yer saber:
    • Anakin - blue shaft - Jedi insignia
    • Darth Vader - red shaft - Imperial insignia
    • Obi-Wan - blue shaft - Jedi insignia.
  • Carrying sheath (with shoulder strap) included.
  • Fully licensed Lucasfilm collectible.
  • Dimensions:
    • Canopy Diameter: 47"
    • Total Length: 39"

Oh, Think Geek! I love you so! How did you know that this is exactly what I needed? How do you always know? Now, which one do I want? I've always loved Obi-Wan's lightsaber, but it looks to be the most uncomforable to hold out of all of them. I love the handle and colour of Anakin's, but do I really want Anakin's when I could have Darth Vader's or Obi-Wan's? Darth Vader's is pretty awesome, but I've always been more about the light side of the force than the dark... Oh what to choose...

Which one do you think I should get? And of course, which one is your favorite? Drop me a line and let me know. I do love comments, you know...

Thanks to So Geek Chic who also likes to stay dry and geeky at the same time.

DC Comic Shoes!

I know I just posted the other day about how hard it is to find geeky shoes for women, so imagine my surprise when I found out that DC and Converse have gotten together to create their own shoe line! And you know what's exciting? They not only have 15 pairs in total, featuring both Super heroes and heroines, but they all come in Women's sizes as well!!!

I think these are my favorite out of all of them! I love the bright, bold colours and the picture of Wondy is awesome!

A little boring, but then again, so is Superman*. I guess these work if you're a Superman fan, but you only want to show it a little bit.

I'm not a Killer Croc fan, but I actually quite like these. I think it's the green.

Batgirl shoes! Be still my heart! I've always wanted shoes with Batgirl on them! The colours aren't the greatest, but I love them anyway!

I love the blue, yellow and grey combination on these, but then again, I just love Batman. I'm not much for the Chuck Taylor hi top, but I would totally wear these.

I've actually come across these before, but never known where they were from. I love the purple and yellow combination! I want these too!

These are a little bit flashy for me... snicker snicker...

These are pretty cool looking.  I love the periwinkle blue colour. I think it suits Mr. Freeze very well.

Notice how there seems to be a trend showing mostly Batman villains? (because Superman villains are lame too*)

JLA

That Superman, he's such a heel....

These Joker shoes are nothing to laugh about...

There's no question that these shoes are awesome

Superman gets 2 pairs of shoes and I don't really like either of them

one might expect with these that one side would be good and the other bad, but they're both pretty bad if you as me.

ok, I lied. There is one pair that doesn't come in women's sizes, or men's for that matter. These awesome Batmobile shoes are for kids age 1-3. But don't you wish they did come in adult sizes? or even big kid sizes (at least that way they would still fit my small feet)

So, what pair would you get? What pair do you think I should get?

Sorry about all the bad puns, but I could help myself.

*Sorry about razzing Superman, but I'm a Batman girl, it comes naturally to me. Don't get me wrong, Superman's ok, he's just not my cup of tea. Also, as far as his rogues gallery goes, I do quite like Lex Luthor.

Thanks to Comics Alliance for proving me wrong on the geeky shoe front

UPDATE!!!

Harley Quinn has been added to the DC shoe roster!

Harley Quinn

Joker - Haha

Super Awesome!
